International connectivity
VSNL's Internet data center is located on the main crux of the Internet activity in India at Mumbai. It is connected on 3 STM-1 links amounting to 455 Mbps direct connectivity to the Global Center in New York, through a 40 Gbps Sea-Me-We3 Global optical fiber system. Additionally, 450 Mbps of satellite connectivity to international NAPs is provided from Level 1 cities in India. The new connectivity structure thus makes available a total of 500 Mbps of fiber capacity and 450 Mbps of satellite capacity to the Indian network, providing a diversified and well-distributed connectivity pattern to the rest of the world. VSNL Recently bought 2 big telecommunication companies: Tyco Global Network & Teleglobe Holdings.
Domestic connectivity
VSNL network is also connected on Asia's first gigabit routed exchange, to the Indian Internet network comprising of over 200 ISPs, 400 nodes and over 3000 corporate leased lines and the National Internet Backbone (NIB) of BSNL. The gigabit switching fabric is linked to Mumbai-VSB with high speed Internet nodes located at Cochin, New Delhi, Chennai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune which forms 90% of the Internet usage in India. The rest of the Level 2 cities in India are connected on multiple E3 links. For the first time in India, this new Gigabit switching fabric makes available high-speed optical fiber connectivity in the country.
